KraftGeek JustTap Magnetic Phone Tripod
If you’re looking for a cheap tripod and selfie stick in one affordable package, you might want to try out the KraftGeek JustTap™ Magnetic Phone Tripod. Yes, I know it’s a mouthful, but the initials are KGJTMPT, which is much easier to say…!
First Impressions
When the KraftGeek parcel arrived at my door, I put it in the cupboard and forgot about it. Not a good start! However, you’ll be glad to know that the product itself wasn’t as forgettable.
Unboxing was easy enough. The plastic bags were sealed, but I could easily rip them apart with my hands. This was what was inside:
1 x KraftGeek JustTap Magnetic Phone Tripod
1 x Magnetic ring
1 x USB cable
1 x Manual

The next step was to set it up…and that was easy enough. I tapped the tripod on my table, and the legs immediately sprang out. It was a bit of a shock, but it worked first time.
I checked the manual to make sure I had everything. The tripod was there, the magnetic ring was there, and the USB cable was there, but where was the remote…?! I checked the box. Nothing. I checked the manual again. Was there really supposed to be a remote? Yes, there was. Well, it wasn’t there, so I folded up the tripod and was just about to put it back in its box and email a complaint to KraftGeek when I noticed in the drawing that the remote was ‘detachable’. Ahhhhh…
The instruction manual was in half a dozen different languages, but it didn’t have many instructions. Personally, I would’ve liked to be told that the detachable remote was on one of the legs of the tripod, but maybe that’s just me…!
The next step was to attach the magnetic ring to the phone holder. As I brought it closer, the magnetic field was so strong that it jumped on to the holder—and it was so firmly attached that I couldn’t even adjust the positioning, let alone take it off and try again! Not ideal…
Finally, I just had to attach my iPhone to the tripod. And that was easier said than done. All I could see on the phone holder was a ring. How was that going to fit on my phone? And then it dawned on me. It was magnetic, so it didn’t have to ‘fit’ at all!
The magnet was strong enough to keep a good grip on my phone, but I did have to take it out of the case first. I know it’s not a big deal, but the problem with magnetic attachments is that they’re never going to work if you have an iPhone case that carries your cash and credit cards as well as your phone. I spend a few weeks a year on safari in Africa, and I really don’t appreciate having to take my iPhone out of its case when I’m on a game drive!
All told, it took me 13 minutes to unbox and set up the tripod—which is probably eight minutes longer than I would’ve expected for such a simple product…!

Usage
The KGJTMPT does exactly what it says on the tin. It’s a tripod, and it’s a selfie stick. What more is there to say? I’ve only had one morning to play around with it, so I don’t know how durable the construction is or how long it might last, but it’s pretty small and light, and it seems to do the job pretty well.
On the KraftGeek website, the average rating from 256 reviews is 4.85 out of 5. Based on the ones I read, people seemed to focus on the compatibility issues (there aren’t any with a magnetic holder!), the convenience of the remote, the flexibility of the head and the strength of the magnetic grip. One reviewer does admit that it’s not the cheapest product on the market, but he still thinks it’s worth the money.
My only slight concern is the level of demand. I don’t really need a tripod or a selfie stick for my iPhone, and unless you’re a downmarket vlogger who can’t be bothered to buy a decent camera and lighting set-up, I can’t really imagine you do either! However, if you want to see it in action, you can check out this video on TikTok.
Verdict
I don’t think this will make it on to many Christmas lists, but if you’re in the market for a tripod-cum-selfie-stick, the KraftGeek JustTap Magnetic Phone Tripod appears to be a pretty good option, and you can even get 15% off if you shop via the links below:
