As a professional wildlife photographer, I have spent over a decade travelling to all seven continents, chasing action shots of apex predators across the African savannah and freezing on the ice sheets of Antarctica. Performance and Real-World Testing

To evaluate its performance accurately, I configured an active real-world benchmark using an old 32GB SanDisk Extreme Pro SD card. This card contained a mix of 400 uncompressed RAW images and 4K video files captured on a recent trip. I executed a quick format on the card via a computer operating system, rendering the directory structure completely invisible.

The Recovery Process

Connecting the formatted card via a standard USB 3.0 reader, the initial quick pass finished in seconds but yielded minimal results. This prompted the software to automatically transition into Deep Scan mode. Scanning the 32GB module required roughly 18 minutes. While this is not the fastest recovery engine on the market, data integrity is vastly more important than raw processing speed.

Recovery Success Rates

The recovery results across various data categories proved remarkably consistent:

  • Standard JPEGs: 118 out of 120 files fully restored (98.3% success rate).

  • Uncompressed RAWs (NEF/ARW): 269 out of 280 files fully restored (96.0% success rate).

  • 4K Video Files (MOV/MP4): 13 out of 15 files fully restored (86.6% success rate).

The application successfully reconstructed 96% of the proprietary RAW file structures. Crucially, it retrieved the embedded metadata, including the original ISO settings, focal lengths and exposure parameters.

The video files showed a slightly lower success rate. High-bitrate 4K video fragments across non-contiguous flash sectors are notoriously difficult to piece back together. Even so, recovering 13 out of 15 lost video files is a fantastic outcome under stressful conditions.

The Power of the File Preview

The pre-recovery preview pane is easily one of the programme's best features. Data recovery often produces thousands of generic filenames, such as FILE0001.NEF. Sifting through an entire drive blindly would take hours.

With the preview engine, clicking a file generates a real-time thumbnail view of the image (such as your recovered Cheetah cub shot). If the thumbnail displays properly in the window, the file structure is intact and will save correctly. This visual confirmation provides immense peace of mind before you begin writing data to a new drive.
