Estonia Bird Photography Workshop—22-25 August 2025

£495.00

Everyone has a camera or phone these days, and whether at home or on holiday, we love to take pictures of people, landscapes, buildings and wildlife. If you’d like to take better photos of harriers, buzzards, eagles and other birds (and maybe the odd fox or bear), this workshop is perfect for you—and a wonderful way to spend a long weekend in Estonia!

The Hide

The hide is fully equipped for photography, with tripods, Arca-Swiss gimbal heads and tables you can raise or lower just by pushing a button. All the windows are glazed with special, one-way photographic glass that allows you to see out while the birds can’t see in! Each looks out on to bespoke log or stone perches and reflecting pools that are baited to attract the local birdlife.

In addition, there’s a Wi-Fi router with decent download speeds (up to 325 Mbps), shelves full of wildlife photography books and a 65” flat screen TV with access to dozens of channels, including live sport and movies.

Equipment

It doesn’t matter what kind of camera you have, but you’ll get the most out of the sessions if you have a DSLR or mirrorless model with at least a 300mm lens (full-frame equivalent). If you don’t have your own Arca-Swiss plate, we have a few spares, so please ask before you travel if you need to borrow one.

Itinerary

The session runs over the August Bank Holiday weekend (Friday 22 to Monday 25 August). You’ll fly to Tallinn late on Friday night, spend the night at the Mercure Tallinn (which is walking distance from the airport) and then be driven by minibus to the hide early in the morning.

The drive takes around two-and-a-half hours, and I’ll be with you all the way, so you can take advantage of that time to ask me any questions you like about the workshop or photography in general. All the course materials will be emailed to you after the event, so you don’t need to take notes if you don’t want to.

When we get to the hide, you’ll have time to mount your lenses and fit your cameras to the gimbals before sitting down for your first seminar. The workshop is designed to teach you the theory and practice behind great bird photography, so the first step is to learn the right settings and techniques. Once you’ve done that, you can find a spot at one of the many adjustable viewing tables and put everything into practice!

The daily routine is flexible, but we’ll have a two-hour morning session on settings, technique and/or editing in Lightroom, plus a two-hour evening session for review and feedback—with a mystery prize for the best photo!

Breakfast, lunch and dinner will all be served at the hide—either in the conference room or at your own table. It’s totally up to you!

After dinner, there’ll still be plenty of daylight left (sunset is at 2045), so it’s up to you to decide as a group when you want to go back to the hotel, but the Käbliku Holiday Houses are only a 15-minute minibus ride away. You can spend the night there before being driven back to the hide in the morning. Again, the timing is up to you!

Your flight home should be on Sunday evening, so we’ll aim to leave the hide by minibus at around 1230. If you’d like to extend your stay to do some sightseeing in Tallinn, that’s perfectly fine, and there’s also a brewery at your hotel and three wineries in the local area.

Price

If you’d like to learn more, please drop me a line at nick@nickdalephotography.com or click the button to book your trip! The price is £495 per person. This includes all meals, transport and accommodation but EXCLUDES international flights. (You can book flights from London Stansted to Tallinn with Ryanair for around £169.)

Note: This workshop will only take place with a minimum of four people, and you must have your own travel insurance.
